CPD for teachers

Embedding literacy at Stanmore College

“Working with Joanne this year has had a big impact on how we have embedded our top priority for CPD. With Joanne’s help we have developed a four step series of activities. First Joanne trained us and helped us design the steps and materials to implement our plan. Then our advanced practitioners delivered sessions that give staff some new knowledge and also led sessions where staff shared what they have already know and do on this topic. Joanne will now return and work with staff in workshops that give the staff time to develop the resources they will use with the learners in the classroom. This model is having a far greater impact than a single day with an external expert could have done.”

Embedding Literacy CPD Training at Coleg Cambria, Wales

“The college has really valued Joanne Miles’ support in developing the skills of staff to embed literacy effectively. Joanne helped staff to understand their role in embedding skills and provided many useful techniques which staff from both vocational and A level contexts could apply in their teaching and learning. The training provided a sound foundation for us to build knowledge and skills and has helped us achieve our excellence for literacy in our recent Estyn inspection, November 2015”

Stretch and challenge training at City and Islington College

“Your “application” / individual / pair group work activities really stretched and challenged the delegates and you basically practised what you preached. Just to clarify : the term “application” relates to stage 2 of the PAR model that Petty outlines in Evidence Based Teaching. I really liked the way you attended to individual / group needs!”

Active Learning Methods and Solution Focused Coaching approaches at St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College

“Joanne Miles, did an Inset day a few weeks ago for our ‘sharing good practice working party’ and CPD team on the Independent and Active Learner and Solution Focused Coaching. She is well worth getting in for a day; she listens carefully to what you want out of the day, asks questions you hadn’t thought of, and adapts her materials to suit.

Joanne – the impact of your training and development work is immediate; you get people talking and reignite their passion for teaching and learning. The ripple effect is impressive – the learning clusters were set up immediately after the training with two people who had been trained by you, leading each cluster. ‘Try something new’ was the theme for the initial sharing of good practice, and most tried one of the activities you had introduced them to/reminded them of, during training. Thanks again, I look forward to working with you again”

Session on assessment for learning methods at New College Durham

“I felt that the assessment workshop provided an excellent range of strategies and methods in considering assessment for learning. Watching how you facilitated the session integrating some of the strategies mentioned really encouraged me to take try out the methods for myself. The related research that was also provided endorsed the strategies given and defined the reasoning behind why assessment for learning should occur”

“The training day with Joanne Miles was very inspiring, exciting and was such an informative and engaging session. I came to the gathering with good knowledge of assessment –however after the training with Joanne I felt motivated and confident that I was actually doing something right within teaching and learning and gained new knowledge and ideas that I can develop further in the future months. I felt that Joanne captured the audience and to be totally honest I was enthralled, the session was engaging –informative, inspiring and I would recommend Joanne Miles to other colleges”
